Chinese New Year (or Spring Festival)
Public holiday.
First day of the lunar calendar (usually falls in February).
Lasts for 3 days

Lantern Festival
Falls on the 15th day of the 1st moon (around mid-Feb to mid-March).
Must see : the famous lion dances that occur throughout this period.
must visit : Yenshui, Luerhmen or Peikang, famous for their fireworks and crowds.
 
Guanyin's Birthday
Falls in late March to late April.
Special prayers to mark the birthday of the Goddess of Mercy.
 
Ghost Month
Falls on the seventh lunar month, where the Chinese believes that ghosts from hell walk to earth.
Taoist temples are swamped by devotees during this seasons.
 
National Day
Falls on 10 October
Must see : fireworks and light show in Taipei.
